The wooden finished enclosures are built for resonant acoustics. With slightly tapered faceplate edges, edge diffraction is suppressed for a clear and natural soundstage. The Optimized components of the Crossover are the main element responsible for properly splitting the frequencies and releasing them through the drivers, resulting in an immensely potent sound reproduction that reaches 50 KHz and can easily fill a standard living room.

The Mica Reinforced Drivers contribute in preserving the sound’s original form while boosting the bass. This system has an impedance of 6 Ohms and a maximum input power of 100 watts. The 3-driver bookshelf speakers include a rigid 5.12 in MRC woofer for dynamic bass, along with a 0.98 in tweeter and 0.75 in super-tweeter designed to reproduce High-Resolution Audio tracks. They require no special setup and are readily available for use on any device. These speakers have remarkably impressive sound staging and are designed to produce sound that fills the room with Hi-Res Audio. The stylish wooden finish not only looks great, but improves the resonant acoustics significantly. As a longtime user of Sony headphones, I have always been impressed by their sound technology and these are no different. The rest of the cabinet is trimmed out in red oak.The SSCS5 3-Way Bookshelf Speakers are a classic Sony offering – a pleasure to look at, and made to high standards. The finished cabinet is primed and painted in oil based epoxy paint. I used MDF and lots of wood glue, screws, and caulking. The photographs below show the construction of the enclosure.

The frequency response for the bass enclosure was calculated using BassBox Pro and is shown below.įrequency Response - Hi-Vi Tower EnclosureĮnclosure Construction - 3-Way Hi-Vi Tower Speaker The port is 3" in diameter and 4" in length. One chamber housing the woofer and the other housing the mids and tweeter. The cabinet itself is divided into two chambers. Slightly over kill, but figured might as well. I instantly decided to go with 1.5" thick walls all around. I wanted to keep it looking good, yet fulfill its duty.

Modeling shows no issues with using the Q1R as a substitution.Įnclosure Design - 3-Way Hi-Vi Tower Speaker I have had someone use the Q1R as a substitute and they have reported excellent results. The SD1.1A tweeters have been discontinued by HiVi. The simulated graphs looked good and so it was, the Hi-Vi F8 woofers and the Hi-Vi SD1.1A tweeters. I figured why not keep with the same manufacture.

Punching in the driver specs in the box and x-over programs really to only come up with the other Hi-Vi drivers. I searched and searched for woofers and tweeters to go with these for months. I came across the HiVi F5s mid-woofers on eBay and bought them up thinking I'd find some use for them one day.
